Good Habits and Character

Good Character
Hadrat Malik said that he heard that Allah's Prophetic Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) had said, "I have been sent to perfect good character." (Malik)

Good Manners
Hadrat Ayyub bin Musa narrates from his father and the latter from his father
that Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "No father can give his child anything better than good manners." (Tirmidhi, Baihaqi)

Eating Habits
Narrated Hadrat 'Umar bin Abi Salama (may Allah be pleased with him): I was a boy under the care of Allah's Prophetic Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) and my hand used to go around the dish while I was eating. So, Allah's Prophetic Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said to me, ''O boy! Mention the Name of Allah (The Glorified and The Exalted) and eat with your right hand, and eat of the dish what is nearer to you." Since then I have applied those instructions when eating. (Bukhari)

Narrated Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) never criticised any food (presented to him), he would eat it if he liked it; otherwise, he would leave it. (Bukhari)

Hadrat Abu Karima Miqdad ibn Ma'dikarib (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that he heard the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) say: 'No man fills a pot worse than his stomach. For any person, a few mouthfuls are sufficient to keep his back straight. But if he wants to fill his stomach, then he should divide his stomach into three parts and should fill one third part of the belly with food, another third with drink and leave one third empty for easy breathing. (Tirmidhi)

Self Reliance
Hadrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Allah's Prophetic Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) called him and laid a condition on him that he should not ask people for anything. When he agreed, he said, "Not even for your whip when you drop it. You must dismount and get it yourself." (Ahmad)

Greeting with Salam (The Salutation of "Peace")
Narrated Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "The one on horse back should greet the pedestrian, the pedestrian should greet those sitting, and the few should greet the many, and the younger should greet the elder." (Bukhari, Muslim)

Thank people
Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Prophetic Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) as saying, "He who does not thank people, does not thank Allah." (Ahmad and Tirmidhi)

Hospitality
Narrated Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "It is my tradition that a man receives his guest at his door and sees him off at the door." (Ibn Majah, Baihaqi)

Controlling Anger
Narrated Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): Allah's Prophetic Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "The truly strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the truly strong is the one who controls himself while in anger." (Bukhari)

Hadrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Allah's Prophetic Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said to us: When one of you becomes angry while standing, he should sit down. If the anger leaves him, well and good; otherwise he should lie down. (Abu Dawud)

The Example of Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him)
Narrated Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): When Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) shook hands with anyone, he would not withdraw his hands till the other man withdrew his, nor would he turn his face till the other did. No one ever saw Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) sitting in a manner that his legs extended before anyone. (Tirmidhi)
